Yellow Cabinet

I'm not sure what was easier - to build the cabinet, or take a pic without Charlie in it.
I made this cabinet from wood found on a nature strip "clearance" last week - the doors were there too.  I found the materials about 2 months ago while driving home with my good friend Karen after a shopping trip to Brunswick St, Fitzroy.
This is the first cabinet I've built from scratch. I measured, cut, glued and screwed.  I'm a little proud of myself.
This cabinet has opened my mind to other ideas, too.
Have a great week.

Dinner for the Ladies

[_]

Oh what a lovely way to spend a saturday night! My good friend Marion cooked a wonderful organic meal for the ladies at her house. I did a little table decoration. Along with tulips in vases and some little green bird cages made of paper hanging from the candelabra, fun was had by all. Thank you Marion for hosting such a wonderful dinner.

Couch Makeover

A large dog bed?  No, our couch has had a $20 make over. I could not believe my luck when I found this fabric at $2 a metre, so I said, "I'll have 10 metres please."
So I got to work, pinning and cutting. The best tip I can give you here is cut and pin on the couch with the fabric facing right side in; pin it all together and then sew. It also helps if you choose fabric where the pattern doesn't need to match up .
Slip covers are great for lots of reasons but what I like is they are easy to wash and it changes the whole look of the room without buying a new couch. Our's was still fine but I was getting tired of the same look

I'm all organized

I've created a little nook for myself. This was yesterdays project and it didn't take Charlie long to put his little toys in the baskets. Today I've been bargain fabric shopping -- I have some ideas: a dress for me, hat and pants for Charlie and a new outfit for the couch.
Hope you all have a great day tomorrow. I'll be making cup cakes with Charlie. Some for us and some for the local community centre fund-raiser.

I can only go up from here

I built a ladder! This was Sunday afternoon's project because I wanted to be able to get up in the roof where I have all sorts of goodies stored. One day that space be a loft (okay, that's how I'm dreaming of it), but for now it's storage.
If you're wondering how I got into the roof before, well, the old ladder was just too big and heavy.
Sunday morning I said to Hubby, "I want to make a ladder." He said, "Don't you want to do something better with your Sunday?" "No," I said, "I couldn't think of anything more fun. If you can show me how the table saw works, I'll cut the wood down".  He said, "Just go and buy a ladder". "No," I said laughing, "it goes against my principles. We have the wood lying around, so it won't cost a cent and we'll be recycling". So that's what I did.  To finish, I gave it a little white wash. I think, just between you and I, he's quiet proud of me.
And another thing just between you and I: don't tell Mum and Dad I used the table saw.

It's about sewing green

Here's a number I whipped up last night. As I was looking for some fabric for a hat for little Charlie, I came across this piece of fabric. I'd forgotten I had it, but I'm sure now that I bought it on sale at Darn Cheap Fabrics for $2 mtr -- just because I love the colour.  I reckon I'll wear my boots and cardi with it.

This and that

Today I feel so inspired. Yesterday I went magnolia square. A craft show was held there that was right up my alley. I met some amazingly people there and I was in my element.  Two lovely ladies were exhibiting there: Pia Jane Bijkerk  had a book launch for her latest book My Heart Wanders (I couldn't put it down last night); and Bronnie Masefau - she has also written a book Australian Vintage Living which I also could not put down.  The craft exhibition was filled with clothing, jewellery, decoration ideas, cupcakes, ruffles, bows, polka dots, crochet, bunting. hats, pompoms, doillies, shoes --  it was just wonderful. I was wandering around feeling as though I was lost in the most wonderful world.
These pics are random.  From top left, my latest kitchen lights, doilly lightshade, Cherry's beads, some starchy stuff, my laundry basket, the first doilly light shade made for my in laws. I added ruffels to my shower curtain just for some elegance and the final picture is my clogs to hold clickety clacks.
